Traffic and Travel FAQ

Where can I find updated info on road conditions?

Of course, the Houston TranStar Traffic Map has traffic information, however due to the infrastructure damage caused by Ike, some of the real-time information is limited in areas.

If you're looking for state and US highway closures, visit this page. TxDOT also has closures on their website.

The City of Houston has a real-time list of ongoing police incidents here.

There's no central clearinghouse for other cities; we apologize for this inconvenience.

What's the latest on METRO's schedules?

Go to METRO's website for updates.

When will traffic signals work again?

Damage assessments are being conducted; however, without power it's hard to know what works and what doesn't. We're using contractors to assist existing teams of technicians, who are working non-stop to assess damage and correct problems.

When you approach an intersection whose signal isn't working, treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Come to a full stop, wait your turn and move forward carefully through the intersection.

When will the HOV lanes reopen?

As of Tuesday, September 23, all HOV lanes are open except for the IH-45 Gulf HOV, which has sustained significant system damage. More Information...

What's the status of the Galveston/Bolivar Ferry?
